On 28 January 2020, just weeks after the first official reports of the 2019 novel coronavirus began to emerge from Wuhan, China, the U.S. Health and Human Services called a press conference in Washington, D.C. By this point, SARS-CoV-2 had infected thousands and millions were quarantined in China. No treatment for the virus exists. Said Anthony Fauci, Director National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID)“We’re looking at the worst scenario that this becomes a bigger outbreak. To stop that outbreak and save lives the world needs a vaccine”."
