Carol is a Clinical Development Specialist with over 25 years of industry experience and has a broad experience of working in medical affairs and clinical development. She has worked for blue chip companies including Glaxo, Hoechst Marion Roussel, and Bayer, for an international CRO as well as a self-employed clinical research consultant. Over the years Carol has gained experience in several therapeutic areas, however her areas of greatest application are infectious diseases/anti-infectives and respiratory medicine.

Carol Burley - Partnership in drug developmentA key area of success has been Carol's ability to lead international multi-functional teams within the industry and CRO environments by getting teams to pull together towards a mutual goal. Other successful areas have been in specialist medical writing, including regulatory submissions and opinion leader development. As a great supporter of continuing professional development (CPD) for herself and others, Carol has experience of training industry and academic personnel in a variety of topics including GCP, study-specific training, and communication skills. She has also accumulated a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and posters presentations at major international conferences.

Carol holds an Honours degree in Genetics from Liverpool and a Postgraduate Diploma in Drug Development Sciences from the University of Surrey. Carol's drive and special interest in clinical trial design lead her to embark on a part-time MPhil on clinical trials of antibacterial drugs a few years ago; she has recently gained her MPhil. Carol is also a Chartered Scientist through the Institute of Clinical Research and the Science Council.
